Maynard High School Spanish Club Trip June 24-30, 2006

El Yunque Rain Forest, the only tropical rain forest in the U.S. National Forest System.

Puerto Rico Trip: 13 MHS Students Discover the Wonders of this Tropical Paradise!

Welcome to our website!  We took this fabulous trip for several reasons.  First, we wanted to practice our Spanish in a real-world setting since we were all students of Spanish 3 or 4 at the time.  Additionally, we wanted to see, firsthand, all the things we had been studying about for so long in our Spanish classes with regard to the beautiful island nation of Puerto Rico.  We also wanted to meet and get to know some of the people that live and work there and see some of the gorgeous flora and fauna that we’ve been studying about in our science classes.  Hiking through rain forests, snorkeling in warm blue water, and snorkeling at night in a phosphorescent bay were up on our to-do list as well.  What follows is a journal-like daily narrative as it was written at the time, accompanied by pictures of our group enjoying each moment and learning as we went from day to day during the trip.  Enjoy!
